Sadly I do not know much about this. I can only imagine a situation where you, your current you download all your memories and knowledge into your child self and then your current you just dies or simply stays miserable like right now…but that only benefits the child-self. Seems like one of you has to bite the bullet either way. Unless of course you find a way to actually merge but I cannot help you with that.

However, now that I think about it, you may just linger in your child-selfs body and become his spirit guide or like a higher self. you will guide him and whisper into his ears. Like a lot of demons control stupid ass humans you will control your former self, but of course this is also a half assed solution.
