The "ghost" you describe seems to be a negative thoughtform. They aren't always malicious but are parasitic in nature. They tend to be attracted to negative emotions. And when I say negative emotions, that can mean anything from fear/paranoia to depression and everything in between. When present they cause whatever negative emotion attracted them to become heightened, because they either enjoy it or feed upon it.
Someone who is not sensitive to their presence will not even notice it. Or they will believe it is them being crazy.
Maybe ask her if she has anxiety about anything. I have found that the ones attracted to anxiety are the 'friendliest'. If she is ask her to try to speak to it, 'do you come here for my anxiety? maybe could you not do that?' Even the ones attracted to fear will obey you if you say 'im not scared of you why are you here?'.
As far as them inflicting psychological harm, only if you allow them to. And they can cause physical harm, but usually don't. I have a.. friend, you could call him.. that likes to get my attention by making me trip, especially when im consciously stepping over something, all of a sudden it will feel like my foot was kicked so that it gets caught on what ever I was stepping over. If you experience one that you think is trying to harm you you need to conquer your emotions so that you can tell it to leave, you have nothing for it here and you want it gone. The case of the one that trips me isnt quite malicious, he does it when there is something that I should see from another angle. Kinda like tough love from a father figure, if you get what I mean.
